The President's Letter—February/March, 2010
Fellow PMICF Members,
Strategic Planning is Key to PMICFC Success
As we move forward into the New Year, your Board Officers and Directors are recommitting themselves to:
- Implement strategies that will improve members communications and services
- Increase and retain members
- Improve member educational and professional development training opportunities
- Enhance our community outreach efforts
- Improve the quality of our speakers
- Advocate PMI and PMICFC by increasing our marketing, and
- Expand our presence within the counties and areas that make up the PMICFC component.
To meet the goals and objectives of the organization we will begin our strategic planning this month, completing the PMI Strategic Planning Alignment Report (SPAR) before the end of March. "Strategy making is a process interwoven with all that it takes to manage an organization", Henry Mintezberg 1994. However, strategic plans aren't worth the paper they are printed on if the tactics don't include the FULL commitment of all stakeholders and the use of all available tools. Therefore, we are requiring that all Board members fully commit to their positions this year and build a team of volunteers to help meet the obligations and tasks of their respective roles. Look forward to announcement for additional volunteers and short-term committees in email blasts and on the Web site. As roles and responsibilities of all Board officers and Directors are being refined in our newly updated Policy and Procedures Manual, we commit to also improve the PMICFC Board transition process by the end of the 2010 year.
Further, in order to enhance our strategic planning process, your PMICFC Board will make every effort to gain more insight from members through surveys, blogs, discussion boards, special invitations to Board meetings and by developing an advisory-only committee called the President's Advisory Committee made up of past Board Officers. Look for more information about this committee in future Web postings.
We are very exited to welcome our new Officers—Clayton Farier (VP of Membership and Recruiting); Hedi Ago (VP of Member Relations); Randy Daigle (VP of Record and Special Projects); Timothy Griffin, our VP of Communications (Krista Pizzurro has resigned due to a job relocation, but has agree to become our Director of Technology); and our returning VP of Marketing, Marshall King and VP of Education, Michael McCurdy; VP of Treasury, Diana Prkacin. Our Directors will be approved by the Board at our next meeting and announced online on our Board of Directors page on the Web site.
- PMICFC will partner with the Tampa Bay Chapter to host a Region 14 Leadership Conference event, along with the other 7 Florida Chapters to make this an unforgettable collaborative conference this year. The Leadership Conference will be held in Clearwater, Florida which will improve the possibility of more Board members attending.
- The Director of the PMICFC Mentoring Program is going to kick-off Mentee Training soon, so please look forward to this announcement and great opportunity.
- The VP of Education is implementing our own newly designed and copyrighted PMP Prep and Refresher Courses.
- Our Director of Scholarships will kick-off the next phase of the PMIEF scholarship application process and will announce a new community outreach program with local schools.
- Our Director of Corporate Sponsors is diligently working to increase the number and quality of PMICFC event sponsors and partners to enhance member services. Look for an increased effort in this area, as well as an increased effort in membership recruiting. Our goal is to increase our membership to 2000 members.
This will be a very exciting year. Visit our Web site often to see new event pictures posted and status reports and updates on new projects being implemented by our hard working dedicated team. If you have suggestions or solutions for any problems you have experienced, please contact me at president@pmicfc.org, and I will be sure to respond immediately. We cannot become the best PMI Component in Florida without your help.
Best Wishes
Vanessa Brown, PhD, PMP
